Attractions in Thailand

Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Every year, millions of visitors descend to this Thai kingdom to relax on its beaches, bask in its natural glories, savour the famous Thai cuisine and indulge in a heavy dose of shopping. The stunning plains of the Golden Triangle and the wave-lapped beaches of Krabi, Phuket, and Samui offer an extensive playground for both land and water activities. The action does not end when the sun sets - Thailand’s nightlife is legendary and whether you prefer a quite night out or desire a wilder action scene- there is something for everyone. There is so much on offer that one visit is never enough – come once and you will want to visit time and again.

Thailand’s attractions have been well documented on TV, films and books. The cosmopolitan capital Bangkok is an amazing study of contrast and aptly exemplifies the saying ‘live and let live’ - here the swanky skyscrapers stand in perfect harmony with 200 years old village homes while golden-spired Buddha statues are at perfect ease with sleazy nightclubs.

Just a few hours drive away from the chaos of Bangkok is the peaceful seaside resort of Hua Hin, which has been the retreat of the royal family since 1920s and still holds its appeal.

Thailand boasts a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Ayutthaya, once the prosperous Siamese trade and political capital but now a collection of magnificent ruins that showcase the craftsmanship of yore and their spiritual beliefs. The main attraction is the Ayutthaya Historical Park, where you can see the four spectacular temples of the early Ayutthaya period set against a dense canopy of ancient trees.

The quaint floating markets of Thailand hold a charm of their own. Amphawa, 63 kms from Bangkok, is a popular day trip destination. The floating market here cuts a small community village and canal Amphawa. The market is dotted with cafes, restaurants and wooden-shop houses selling souvenirs and Thai sweets.

Thai massages need no introduction and if you are in a mood for some pampering, head to Koh Samui, one of the most distinctive of all Thai islands with a broad appeal for everyone. Before spas took centre stage, people would head here for meditation and yoga. Now spas and Thai massages rule the roost and you can enjoy a pampering experience both on the beaches or in any of the world-class spas set amidst awe-inspiring natural settings.

Think of Thailand and two places that will immediately come to the mind are Phuket and Pattaya. Phuket boasts spectacular scenery, and is an enviable combination of soft white sandy beaches, stunning tropical sunsets, warm waters of the sea – indeed Phuket is the most popular beach destination in Asia. Also on offer are the world-standard golf courses, exciting eco-adventures in tropical forests, great diving opportunities and the legendary nightlife at Patong beach.

Pattaya’s beaches are brimming with life as sun worshippers and water sports lovers take to the waters. After dark, action shifts to the streets as visitors sets out to explore the electrifying nightlife and party till the wee hours of dawn. Apart from the nightlife and water sports, there is much on store when it comes to shopping, sightseeing, dining, accommodation and entertainment.
