This is a difficult review to write. Villa Cemedik is a beautiful Villa and a lovely place to stay. The staff were amazing and so accommodating – they couldn’t do enough for us. The villa itself is beautifully appointed and absolutely met our brief of 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a pool and a communal living area. We stayed for 6 nights. When we were looking for accommodation we wanted to be private and outside the hustle and bustle of Ubud however we had really no idea of just how far out of Ubud we were. The brief on the Villa Cemedick website was accurate as it said that it was a 20 min drive from Ubud but there was no further information as to how we could get in and out of Ubud other than that there was a driver available. This is essentially correct and we cannot fault our driver but as a group of what was essentially 3 couples, all having different needs and ideas as to how they wanted to spend their Ubud holiday, the logistics around transport became a source of tension and a huge point of difference between us. As well as that, we (understandably) had to pay for every trip in and out of Ubud and when you are doing that 3 – 4 times a day the cost mounts up and none of us had actually budgeted for that additional cost. Availability of food was also a bit of a problem – we had to make sure we did a supermarket run in Ubud at least twice so that we could cook for ourselves as a family when we wanted to and to have fruits and other snacks (and beers) available to us at our convenience. Made, the Villa manager and his team could not have been nicer and were willing to cook for us three times a day if we wanted to, but we also wanted the flexibility of getting up when we wanted to (at different times) and just making breakfast for ourselves so again, making that happen required another round of negotiations, logistics and financial management.
If I could uproot the Villa and the staff relocate it 5 minutes out of Ubud I would 100% recommend it and stay there again but unless you have your own means of transport or you only stay one or two nights and were just there to rest and relax and had no need to venture in to Ubud I am unable to recommend it due to all of the issues detailed above. I want to stress again that this in no way reflects on the wonderful and hospitable staff as they were faultless.
