Khao Tao

Khao Tao is a small village, 20km south of Hua Hin and easily reachable off teh main highway to Pranburi, best known for a wonderful secluded beach, Haad Sai Noi.

The road to the beach goes around a man made water reservoir and is easy to find. Although only 1km long, the beach is generally quiet, except on weekends and public holidays as it is a favorite destination for Thai locals and thise living in Bangkok.

There are a number of beach restaurants that serve up delicious local Thai food, seafood and drinks and they all have sun loungers and umbrellas. As opposed to Hua Hin and Khao Takiab beaches, Had Sai Noi drops-off quickly, making it ideal for swimming.

Khao Tao is also the protected location of the queen's summer palace, built by King Prajadhipok, Rama7. Wang Klai Kang Won who opened its dorr in 1919 served as an alternative summer palace for His Majesty and Queen Rampai Phanee and was designed with a Spanish architectural feel designed to benefit from the cooling sea breezes. The original name “Suan Klai Kang Won” and “Phra Tamnak Piamsuk”, meaning “The Garden Far From Worries” and “The Royal Residence Full of Happiness”still remain in use.

The royal residence is complimented with beautifully manicured ornamental gardens with many various varieties of plants and objets d'art from Java.

There are very few hotels and villas around Khao Tao as the area is very close to the Royal Summer Palace. All the villas while not necessarily ion the beach front are a short distance to the beach.
