The Khao Sam Roi Yot, a marine national park, is one of Thailand's best kept secrets. The name, when translated means three hundred peaks. Yet there is more to this park than the peaks of the Tenasserim Mountains. The park preserves of some of the country's finest shoreline habitat, including sprawling marshes filled with water fowl. This largest freshwater marsh in Thailand is home to a large number of birds, amphibians, reptiles and small mammals and it is precisely due to this it has been listed as a site of global importance by the World Conservation Union (IUCN).

You can explore the Sai Kaeo, Sai or the largest, Phaya Nakhon cave. The long hike is especially worth it when you see the Phra Thinang Khuha Kharuhat, a four-gable roofed pavilion constructed 130 years ago.

Trek through the forested sections and you can see a wide variety of wild life such as Serow and blackish goat antelope, dusky or spectacled langur, crab-eating or long tailed macaque, barking deer, porcupine and a whole host of others.

Wind your way through various forest trails, discover numerous caves and if you are tired, simply rest on fine white sandy beaches. You can also take boat excursions to outlying islands and if you are lucky enough, you may see the pods of dolphins that inhabit the bay. Those who are less-actively inclined, can float by boat down river from Wat Khao Dang and see the herons and egrets.
