This home is a far cry from the sanitized, or cloned homes found on the European style developments in the valley. Surrounded by natural forest and rubber plantations, the property is accessed through the grand double gates and over a bridge spanning the valley that forms such an important part of the landscaping. Curving up the drive way and into the porte cochere you are able to notice the finer detail of the home with decorative brocade in the arches white washed walls and abundance of wood windows, all providing a distinct colonial feel.
The marble entrance stairway to the home curves up between the 5x7 pool area and living area veranda, tempting you with the treats that await. Entering the home, you immediately notice the cool atmosphere created by the distressed marble floors, high ceilings and opulent hard wood furniture. From the hallway, there is easy access to the kitchen with the living, dining, entertainment and office spaces offering easy access to the front veranda; providing a shaded respite from the tropical climes.
The front veranda provides views over the Layan valley to Manik and Surin 15 kilometres across the bay. Appointed with suitably colonial rattan chairs, lounges and day beds, ceiling fans make this the perfect spot any time, day or night.
Moving into the living and dining areas, you notice the mezzanine level providing the high ceiling that effectively deals with any tropical heat. Sofas and lounge chairs covered in fine fabrics introduce vibrant colours to the palette and allow for a number of entertainment and social options. The dining area is adjacent to the living area and provides easy access for kitchen staff to entice you with local favourites or more exotic fare. For those that enjoy the kitchen, it provides for both European and Asian cooking styles in a restrained but effective space.
The air-conditioned entertainment room is appointed with comfy sofas and chairs and all the requirements for a few hours of light escapism. Adjoining this is a south facing office area allowing for quiet time of a more serious nature, if need be, whilst providing truly distracting views over the valley through the French windows.
The fabulous marble staircase spirals up to the bedroom level, where you arrive on a landing appointed with informal living and a second entertainment area most suitable for kids. The two guest bedrooms are cozy yet airy made possible by the second storey Wall for French windows. Both have in room entertainment and air-conditioning. A shared en-suite bathroom is tastefully appointed.
The Master bedroom provides for fabulous views and leads onto the upstairs veranda which runs the front of the house. This room has to be seen to be appreciated offering the occupant a sense of grandeur and a feeling that in a home such as this, all is right in the world.
